China is recruiting chefs to work in local small
town restaurants in Western Canada. Most of the restaurants serve simple food for local
residents. If
the applicant enjoys living in a small rural and
quiet community, then this would be a good
opportunity for them.
Job
Description
Cooks
perform some or all of the following duties:

Prepare
and cook complete meals or individual dishes
and foods
-
Prepare
and cook special meals for patients as
instructed by dietitian or chef
-
Supervise
kitchen helpers
-
Oversee
subordinate personnel in preparation, cooking
and handling of food
-
May
plan menus, determine size of food portions,
estimate food requirements and costs, and
monitor and order supplies.
Working
Conditions
Cooks
work under pressure, and the work volume can be
considerable. Shift work and having to work
weekends and holidays is common.
Burns and cuts are common occupational
hazards.
Cooks
need the following skills and abilities:

enjoy
working with food, have clean work habits and
knowledge of food safety procedures,

be
results- and detail-oriented,

be
able to work at a routine job, but adapt to
unusual requests and circumstances,

some
jobs require creativity in food preparation
and presentation,

good sense of taste and smell, vision, good
hand-eye co-ordination,

physical
stamina to stand for long periods of time and
to work in hot and humid environments,

the
ability to remain calm under pressure,

be
well-organized, self-disciplined and able to
work quickly, carefully and safely,

be
able to read and follow recipes,

have
good verbal communication skills and be able
to work well with others in the kitchen and in
food service,

mathematics
for planning and administration,

basic
computer skills may be required,

recordkeeping skills are required to maintain
inventories, order supplies,
Description
of Wages and Benefits
The
monthly starting salary for a cook in a small
restaurant is roughly $1540 Canadian dollars per
month.
The spouse can also obtain part time or
full time employment in the community earning
between $500-$1200 Canadian dollars per month.
Immigration

least 2 years work experience as a cook

relating to chef or cooking skills

working as a cook (if they have changed
occupations then they do not qualify)
Community
Description
The
population of many of the local communities is
500-1000 people.
The winters are cold and the summers are
mild. For
a 100 square meter apartment, the rental cost is
between $250-350 Canadian dollars per month.
Taxes are roughly 16-18% of your income.
Houses can be purchased for as little as
$15,000 Canadian dollars.
Nicer homes are sold for $30,000 Canadian
dollars.
